GE opens Oklahoma City Oil and Gas Technology Center
Two test wells drilled deep underground and a well simulation towering five stories above highlight the advanced research capabilities of GE's Oil and Gas Technology Center, which the global technology company celebrated Wednesday morning.
Home to 120 employees and designed to advance technology throughout the oil and natural gas industry, GE's newest global research center is the company's 10th worldwide and the first to focus on only one industry.
"The plan is to be at the forefront and take the industry forward through applied technology," said Lorenzo Simonelli, CEO of GE Oil & Gas. "The industry is going through a tough cycle. The big question is how to find more efficient and effective ways to do business. The oil and gas industry is inefficient."
Located at 300 NE 9 St., the center includes 125,000 square feet of lab and office space, two 30-ton overhead cranes and a floor dedicated to collaboration with companies and outside researchers.
